Her great-great-grandparents arrived in America in 1888, and she learned that her great-great-grandmother, Rose, returned to Poland for a visit in 1933 for a visit, six years before the Nazis invaded Poland. “It touched something so deep in me,” she relates. She conducted extensive research and had begun writing the book when her brother sent her a link to a family tree revealing that some of her family members were from an area not far from where she sets the story.
