They’re only usable in portable mode, and there is no gyro sensor, no HD rumble, no near-field communication (NFC) functions, and no motion IR camera in the controller. There are a few downsides to Hori’s controller. They will run about 4780 yen (44) and lack a bunch of features, such as HD Rumble, NFC, gyro and infrared sensors.
The third-party controllers look suited for Nintendo Switch owners with big hands who want to play shooters or other action-focused games on the go. Why it has taken a company so long to come up with a different design is beyond us, but Hori has finally taken up the mantle and is releasing some beefy Joy-Con controllers in Japan to coincide with Daemon X Machina ‘s release. Hori’s Grip Controller has a few nice perks: a cross pad-style directional pad, extra large analog controllers, and turbo buttons that fire five, 10, or 20 times per second. The controllers which launch in September and will cost 4,780 Yen (approximately 34 / 44) lack gyro sensors, IR, HD Rumble and NFC, and don't have internal batteries so they'll only work in. Called the Grip Controllers, Hori’s Joy-Con replacements will be released this fall alongside mech action game Daemon X Machina (hence the branded X button on the right controller).
